Red Vs. Blue Related Story (Freelancer)

Chapter One

For some reason agent Illinois was never comfortable with the "Freelancer" program, and yet she some how volunteered for it, probably only for the fact that she wanted an AI desperately, due to the peer pressure of the other Freelancers gloating about them, also that she wanted to try and have some company once in a while, cause she wasn't the most social type of person out there.

"Hey Ill! You wanna come join me for lunch? I'll pay!" Michigan said while running up beside agent Illinois, but she just took a small step to her left trying to get a little distance between her and Michigan.

"No it's ok, I'm fine, not really hungry…" Illinois barely even said but Michigan just laughed knowing Illinois's phobia of others. "Oh come on! It's been ages since we talked… actually to tell the truth I don't even think we've talked…" he said while smirking a bit while looking at the self-kept girl, due to the fact that he adored the little cute fear of hers and kept it against her.

"I'm sorry…" she said taking another step to her left still walking, but just a tad slower, now that Michigan seemed to take the conversation a bit more… serious I guess you can put it. "now why are you always trying to sidestep away from me?" he laughed while walking closer to Illinois, and slumping a hand over her shoulder, and Illinois couldn't help but stop, stare, and then blush, but still trying to maintain a serious face on but failed.

"You know you're not very good with hiding things.""Michigan's smirk grew even larger, while squeezing his arm around her neck even tighter," I'll let you go after you'll stop being so afraid of me and come to lunch with me and my pals. "He said.

"…" by now her face was red, either from embarrassment or lack of air, "please let go Vaughn."she said with a surprisingly calm and serious voice, and Agent Michigan's smirk disappeared and his grip only softened a bit, thus taking the chance she crouched down and swiped her feet, in one swift motion, and Agent Michigan did what he had to… take it and give a groan. "Geezes no need to be so rough… but nice move there." His smirk reappeared while trying to get up, but when he did and looked up to the shy agent, she was gone. 'She's a fast one too…'

By now Agent Illinois had ran up to somewhere around half a mile without giving a sweat or pant. "I'm sorry." She finally said, still too shy to even reply. Her eyes reddened just a bit but held back, it was apparently considered as a bad thing if you cry, and she didn't want anyone else to see,due to her fear.

'Why does this kind of fear of all fear? I'm fine with other things… why this one…' she thought to herself with just a single tear slipping out the side of her eyelids. She's had this fear ever since her parents died during the start of the covenant war, when she was 7. And ever since she's became self-kept, and hardly speaks with anyone else even her trainers unless if she's forced to do so.

She sighed then looked around her surrounding and luckily there wasn't a soul around her, and she felt more… relaxed. She smiled, and then walked up to fence separating the buildings and the sea. she turned then sat down, while closing her eyes. She felt so safe and relaxed, she doesn’t do this often enough. She could hear everything, from the winds forcing the grass move from side-to-side, the water hitting the brick wall, the trees leaves moving from side-to-side, and footsteps, getting louder and louder every step… she couldn’t help but open her eyes in a instance, then looked around, expecting someone to be in front of her by now, but sadly there was no one to blame her relaxing state to be cut short.

She knew she heard the foot steps, she knew it wasn’t the stupid wind trick, she knew someone was hiding somewhere. Therefore she stood up and started to walk towards the building, but only to be scared by a little tap on the shoulder. Since she wasn’t use to other people touching her or even tapping her, she jumped back and gave a slight fighting stance. Who she thought was the last person to talk to her now gave her a smile. Agent Michigan…

"Whoa! You ran away so fast last time I didn’t even get the chance to say sorry to you!" he said with a smile instead of a smirk like he usually has one, "Soo…. I'm sorry… about being so rough on ya man, I guess I deserved that kick…" he said with a small blush and scratching his head trying to get ride of the embarrassment, but it just seemed to get a bit worst. He then gave up and looked at Illinois, "No hard feelings?”

But Illinois just seemed to be in shock that people would come back like this just to say sorry personally… she just seemed to blush even more, "it's ok… I’m sorry…" she said shyly while looking at her feet hoping that the image in front of her might disappear or something, but no such luck.

"Now why would you say sorry? You did what I deserved, so I’m perfectly fine with it… you shouldn’t just hand thanks and sorrys out like that, they’ll take the wrong idea and use you, and you wouldn't even know." He said with a grin and patting her on the back, which gave Illinois a scare and made her jump back, "Oops, sorry, my bad, forgot about that…" he said with another one of those embarrassment scratches.

Illinois gave wide eyes, that someone would say something, give a suggestion to her like this… she wasn’t even used to other people talking her, let alone suggesting things she didn’t even know… "Thank...y…you" she said looking back down. Then there was a awkward two minute silence…

"Well come and join me for lunch anytime you want to? If you'll get comfortable enough, I'll show you the others too!" he said while sticking a hand out, "I never got a chance to introduce myself properly… hey! My name's Vaughn!" he said with a huge smile. But Illinois just stared at his hand not knowing what to do. She slowly reached for the hand, but Vaughn seemed to be a little impatient and grabbed her hand and shook it.

"Umm… My… N…Name's Lyn…" she shuddered a bit while still trying to shake agent Michigan’s hand.

"Well I guess it's set! We're officially friends from now on!!" he said with a wide grin, and yet reminded Illinois of a kid she used to know…
